Thought you'd like to know:
More than half (54%) of NEOHFMA members said they pay for registration fees for our Holiday Party and Awards Banquet themselves. The remaining 46% said their employer pays the fees (23% if there is educational content and 23% regardless of program content).
60% of survey respondents said they are using Chapter Sponsor services, 20% are not and 20% do not know.

Now that my year as President of the Northeast Ohio Chapter is completed, there are two

things I really want to do: thank those who provided so much help and support, and?. go out to lunch! I can't begin to thank all those whose involvement with our Chapter's activities has made the last few years so enjoyable and rewarding, but I do want to recognize a few individuals in particular:
- Jim Hutchinson of UHHS, Board Chair and Past President - always willing to try some of our crazy ideas and not say "I told you so" if they didn't pan out.
- Past Presidents Rich Fox of The Center for Health Affairs, Bob Monitello of Ernst & Young, and Bill Keckan of Marymount - some great people who have provided a lot of guidance and continue to contribute to the success of our Chapter.

- Neil Freer, Board Member and past Annual Institute Chair - my wife still thinks we were having an affair.
- Chris Milligan of Unicare, Chapter Vice President - the guy who takes on the impossible job and makes it turn out better than you ever imagined.
- Anna Sulewski of MetroHealth and Mary Jayne Reedy of Unicare, Newsletter co-Chairs - put together one of the best-run projects with which I've been associated in HFMA. My guess is that they still don't get out to lunch very often.
- Rick Clough of Robinson Memorial, my boss for many years - not only tolerated, but supported a lot of time away from the office?even if I wore a golf shirt!
- Debby Kilmer of UHHS, my gorgeous wife - has probably attended enough HFMA events with me the last few years to qualify for a Fullmer Bronze Award. Thanks for your patience?.and I'm NOT having an affair with Neil!

COMMITTEE CORNER
From the many committee members who were served so well
This is not your typical Committee Corner article. Instead, this article is dedicated to Dave Kilmer and recognizes the personal commitment and outstanding leadership of our fellow HFMA member. Dave Kilmer's term as President of our chapter has expired and we look back and realize that we have grown so much from his service.
Each committee was polled about working with Dave throughout his term. Consistency was a common thread - each committee said that Dave was present at many meetings throughout the year and made real contributions to the effectiveness of each group. He offered input, ideas and inspiration, challenged our limits, and motivated and encouraged us. He stayed in the game with us, with his sleeves rolled up, ensuring we accomplished our goals and delivered our best to our chapter. Dave invested countless hours of his time. Dave inspired the various committees to stretch - and the chapter was rewarded with our programs, events and tools.
Somehow, a simple thanks doesn't seem to say nearly enough about the real leadership we experienced first hand. But here goes?
Thanks, Dave! You Rock!

GHALI Reaches New Level of Success

The 2004 Gerry Haggerty Annual Leadership Institute ended on Friday, May 14th, and is being touted as one of the best attended in recent memory.

The winning combination of excellent speakers, a first class setting, and of course, approval of the conference by the Accountancy Board of Ohio for 16 CPE credits had rooms full of HFMA members looking for a great experience. They were not disappointed! Lunches were of a working nature to ensure an uninterrupted educational experience while plenty of fun was had by all throughout the event.
On Thursday, at the conclusion of the last session, attendees dashed off to participate in their selected activities. Glenmoor Country Club provided us with many to choose from. The largest group of event attendees played the front nine holes of a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. The weather was great, the golfers enjoyed free beverages, free golf balls and tees, cash prizes and gifts provided by the chapter's generous sponsors. Congrats to the winning team from SummaCare, our major sponsor, who had a great score of five under Par!

Twenty participants chose to go to the Glenmoor Spa and were pampered in one of Ohio's finest facilities. The Glenmoor staff made each of them feel like royalty. Another group went on a shopping spree to
Belden Village Mall where each shopper
received a $50 gift certificate to start them
on their way. Still another group of members chose to just enjoy the scenery of the Glenmoor itself. |

On Friday, a half-day session had yet
another round of great speakers and the
Annual Installation of Chapter Officers and Board Members took place.
Another highpoint of the conference was the food served by the Glenmoor Country Club. Every meal was first-class, a culinary experience, with presentation that catered to the eye as well as the palette. Our sincerest appreciation goes to the Glenmoor staff for a job well done and memories created for the NEOHFMA.

Kudos to You!

Suzanne Tschetter - Suzanne was recently awarded an Alumni Service Award from John Carroll University for her work encouraging annual giving to the University. She was one of three alumni to receive this award at JCU's Annual Awards dinner.
Joe Beatty - Joe is now the Finance Director for South Pointe Hospital. Previously, he was Finance Manager for Huron Hospital. Both hospitals are part of the CCHS East Region Hospitals.
Niki Cromes - Niki was recently promoted to Manager, Project Management & Contract Analysis for Materials Management for the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
Brian Nestor - Brian was recently promoted to Finance Manager for University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Ken Lakota - Ken was recently promoted to Finance Manger of Women's and Children's Services for University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Timothy Sheeler - Tim, President of HRSI/First Credit International Corp., received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Akron Law School.
Nancy Fisher Crum - Nancy was recently named Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The MetroHealth System. Previously, Nancy was with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as Director of Staff Benefits.
Michael Clark - Mike is now an Engagement Leader with Cerner Corporation. Mike is based out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Celebrating Teamwork

Have you ever worked with a group of people for which everything just "fell into place?" Where each individual's contribution pushed the success to a higher level? This past year, I've had the pleasure of working with a team of people that accomplished just that.
The individuals who belong to the Visions Newsletter Committee are a talented group. We met together for the first time last July and, in less than a year, we've worked hard to give you a web-based, user-friendly, updated format. But those weren't the only changes that occurred. There were many behind-the-scenes changes that streamlined the process of putting a newsletter together, saved time for volunteer committee members, and set-up a newsletter process that is makes participating easy.
The newsletter committee not only works on the newsletter together but we also take the time to have fun. The group celebrated this year's accomplishments with a dinner and comedy show at Pickwick and Frolic located in the historic gateway district in downtown Cleveland.
The evening was filled with laughter, even before we enjoyed the comedy show. We shared stories about our first jobs and our dream jobs, none of which were related to health care finance. It was a wonderful night to wind down and take the time to get to know each other better.
I've enjoyed co-chairing the committee this year but I want to emphasize that what made it really fun was watching a group of individuals come together as a team, each contributing in their own way. The "VISION" of the committee is to work without boundaries, to explore new ideas, and to stimulate the chapter's interest. While the newsletter is still a work in process, we are well on our way to achieving our Vision.

NEOHFMA Is Awarded the Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Award
Just in case you didn't hear it already, your NEOHFMA newsletter committee submitted a request for consideration for the Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Award under the member communications category. Our chapter was awarded the Yerger award for its action to invigorate and strengthen membership through our Visions Newsletter, a symbol of our desire to have a direct and favorable impact on member satisfaction today and in the coming years.
We wish to acknowledge the great leadership and support of David Kilmer, our board members, our newsletter committee members and the numerous chapter members who have made many contributions to the newsletter content and for supporting our personal motivation to complete this project.
