Speakers:
Christopher Kerns
is a senior consultant at the Advisory Board Company,
a for-profit research firm serving a membership of more
than 2,500 of America’s leading hospitals and
health systems. He is one of the lead researchers for
the firm’s Financial Leadership Council, a membership
serving the chief financial officers of hospitals and
health systems. Mr. Kerns has authored studies of best
practices designed to develop optimal capital strategies
and improve revenue cycle operations, including a benchmarking
report entitled, Assessing Revenue Cycle Performance.
Mr. Kerns is a health care financial analyst by training.
Prior to joining the Advisory Board, he was the editor
of The Healthcare Investment Letter—an investment
newsletter covering publicly traded health care companies
and targeted at individual investors—and has written
extensively for the late Louis Rukeyser’s investment
advisories, with a specialization in health care firms.
Mr. Kerns also has conducted biomedical research at
the National Institutes of Health in the field of neuroscience.
Mr. Kerns received his M.B.A. from the Robert H. Smith
School of Business at the University of Maryland and
earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
James P. Brown
Jim is a Principal in the Healthcare Practice of Deloitte
Consulting with over seventeen years of experience in
strategy, operations and revenue cycle. He is currently
responsible for Deloitte Consulting’s Northeast
Ohio Healthcare Practice and is the national leader
of the firm’s Healthcare Provider Pricing Practice.
Jim received his B.S. from Bowling Green State University
and his MHA from Xavier University.
Christopher J. Donovan
Chris is Senior Director of Fiscal Services at the Cleveland
Clinic, with over fifteen years experience and multiple
responsibilities across the organization, including
utilization and length of stay initiatives, financial
planning and budgeting, decision support, revenue cycle
initiatives and operational performance management.
He is currently responsible for hospital and physician
charge master and price management, monthly statistical
and financial performance reporting, and the Cleveland
Clinic’s decision support and finance business
intelligence efforts. Chris received his B.S. from Miami
University and his MBA from Cleveland State University.
Margery B. Mazoh
Margery is Senior Project Manager in Fiscal Services
at the Cleveland Clinic, with over twenty years of experience
in varied health care organizations. Margery is responsible
for the implementation and oversight of the Cleveland
Clinic’s value-based pricing strategy and for
corporate management of pricing and chargemaster. She
received her B.A. from Haverford College and her M.S.
from the Harvard School of Public Health.
