American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Stimulus Funding-Opportunities, Challenges and Risks for Healthcare Entities

Speaker: Jay Fisher, Principal, C3 Partners, an IT Consulting firm that has been providing services to the health care industry since 1993. After his work in industry, he managed large-scale IT programs for both Andersen Consulting and Deloitte Touche. Since February, his firm has committed full-time resources to understanding the background and implications of the HITECH Stimulus bill. In the intervening months, he’s discussed the issues with dozens of hospitals / hospital systems, software vendors, and healthcare associations, as well as having followed each federal government event related to HITECH. Jay holds a B. A. in Psychology & German from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Masters of Professional Accountancy from Georgia State University. He holds licensure as a Certified Public Accountant in Wisconsin and serves on the Wisconsin Governor’s Information Technology Management Board (ITMB); including the Governance body to Department of Electronic Government, 2000.

Topic:
Automating the Resolution of Credit Balances

Speakers: Suzanne Tschetter, Director, PFS-Financial Reporting for Cleveland Clinic Health System. Suzanne started her career in healthcare as a summer intern at the Cleveland Clinic then moved into public accounting for three years. After earning her CPA, she determined she missed the healthcare setting and returned to the Cleveland Clinic. Suzanne obtained her MBA while working at the Cleveland Clinic Health System where she has been for the past 17 years of which 11 have been spent in Patient Financial Services. During her time in Patient Financial Services, Suzanne gained a thorough understanding of Credit Balance Resolution as one of her primary areas of responsibility. She worked closely with vendors and the CCHS software development team to implement automated solutions for success. She is also responsible for CCHS AR Reporting and Revenue Cycle Internal Controls Effectiveness. Suzanne is the Secretary/Treasurer for the Northeast Ohio Chapter of HFMA and has been involved with HFMA for over 10 years.

Speaker:
Brian Kelly, Vice President, Kaufman Hall,
where his responsibilities include developing financial, strategic, and capital plans, assessing joint venture, partnership, and affiliation options, and advising on merger, acquisition, and divestiture transactions for hospitals and health systems nationwide. Mr. Kelly has more than 10 years of experience in financial advisory services. Prior to joining Kaufman Hall, Mr. Kelly was a Director of Finance and Business Development at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and, prior to this, held positions at Arthur Andersen and Huron Consulting Group. Mr. Kelly has an M.B.A., with a concentration in Corporate Finance, and a B.S.B.A. from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
